growing unhealthy systems 12 different ways
I didn't want to post anything on M$ buying out Giant, the anti-malware company, and I didn't want to write anything about them releasing Giant under their own name as a beta. But enough people prodded me in public and private about it. So here's a review. Giant was the highest rated my an independent tester, and M$'s version seems to be as effective--it's a prophylactics aswell as a scanner/remover. BUT:
"Problem is, the program is buggy, very buggy. When it works, it works well, but when it doesn’t, forget about it. I had to reboot halfway through writing this review since I couldn’t get it to open anymore. There are some GUI bugs that need to be fixed, including how Windows sometimes forgets about it, and random crashes when clicking on buttons. The GUI is also slow to draw on the screen, which can be annoying."
(Persistent rumors all over the net that this will be made available as a pay to play subscription service after beta is more alarming. Reminds me of a half remembered SF story where the company built the allergen into one divisiuon's product, and then sells you the temporary cure through another division. Or crack dealers. Or even worse, republicans.)
