mash up tutorial
Some one call Ms. Nastalie and tell her to follow the links to the mashup tutorial. What's a mashup? take two or more songs, preferably by different artists, and mash them together into a new composition. Classic example would be DJ Dangermouse's Grey Album, where he mashed up Jay Z's Black Album and the Beatles White Album. It' not quiote the same as copping a sampled riff for your tune, the aestheitc is different. Your trying to compare and contrast, pun, and make opposites play well together, or come up with a whole that greater then the sum of it's parts.
If you really follow the links, you get a free version of Mackie's Tracktion (MAC OR PC version!). All you gotta do is register--and you don't even have to fill out the whole registration form, just email. Tracktion is weird, supposedly has all the features of Logic, Cubase or Protools but fits on one screen with one of those only-a-raver-might-love-it non-standard GUI's.
I'm way to busy this week to get into testing this in any real way. maybe next week, once the phone stop's ringing.
