Congressman Rick Boucher on the induce act
Congressman Rick Boucher is guest bloging at Larry Lessig''s blog. Here's his take on the Induce Act, a Senate bill that would seem to outlaw tape decks, iPods, and computers for inducing copyright violations. He starts off by asking for input, especially on 1st Amendment ramifications. The real action is in the comments below- which Boucher free wheeling along.
Just like this crappy little blog, the best things in life are in the comments section. Dig in.

God help us if Larry Lessig decides to attack this one on First Amendment grounds. The last time he pulled that one, he just ended up establishing a very bad precedent.
This legislation should be stopped now, before it passes. That should be the focus. Anyone who thinks it will be declared unconstitional after it's passed is a lazy fuck who can't be bothered to call his Congressman.
And they will, no doubt, blame the lawyers after its passed, for failing to have it struck down.
Lord, save the courts from the scourge of professors who think they have a clue about practicing law.

Heaven save us from lazy lawyers who can't be bothered to read the title of the post, let alone the body of it.
And remember folks, no lawyers are EVER involved in the legislative process, in anyway, and no lawyer ever ran for congress or the senate. None. The media is just trying to bad mouth Sen. Edwards, he was a grocer, not a lawyer.
(and contrary to the lies told by liberal media, the authors of the Induce Act are not lawyers, never practiced law. Never. Sen. Hatch doesn't have a JD from Pittsburgh Law School- he was a lathe operator for Mormon Heavy Industries and Sen. Leahy didn't get a JD from Georgetown University Law Center, he was a goose down gatherer on an Organic goose down farm down the road from Ben and Jerry's. These people aren't lawyers. They don't know anything about the law. They are just Senators elected by proles like you)
And no lawyer was ever a professor in law school. It's against their charter. Law school professors are all MBAs and CPAs. The same with judges and supreme court justices. No lawyers there. None.
So write your congress critter, we want legislation passed that will insure all future congress critters and senators and judges and law school profs to be lawyers. Maybe we should beseech our congress critters even further, to legislate that the vote should be restricted to lawyers.
they can't be bought by PACs or companies.
they always do the right thing.
they never make mistakes.

And god save us from geeks who don't bother to read their user logs.
I read the title, and the linked blog, including the posts. And I certainly noticed the opening post was from Boucher, not Lessig -- it's why I said "IF Larry Lessig decides . . . " (emphasis supplied.) That is not an unreasonable concern, given that Boucher is posting on Lessig's blog.
Perhaps you could post a copy of the last letter you wrote your Congressman/Senators? I'd be happy to reciprocate.
Nah, so much easier to blog, and blame the lawyers.

P.S.: And if you think Hatch or Leahy had anything at all to do with the drafting of the legislation, you have no clue as to how legislation is drafted. They don't write it -- the indutry does that -- they just push it.
