And here I thought perhaps you just didn't want any more criticism of your stylistic choices. . .

Buffy:
I believe what's happening to ffej.org is called a reorganization. Ffej is upgrading the software that updates the content on his blog. The software update also makes modifications to the how the site appears, and folks have been posting comments on how the site appears with the particular web browsers they're using.
Right now ffej.org appears more similar than different to the ffej.org of the recent past.
The comments portion does not seem to respond as quickly as it did with the previous backend software Grey Matter.
I think ffej is indisposed at this time, too.

Yeah, the pop-up for comments takes longer to load than the old comment page. I use Opera. And I have a huge pipe.

the problem is twofold. software isn't like jerry: size doesn't matter. it's how efficient your routines are. MT packs much more functionality into a package about the same size as greymatter. much more. also, some of the routines are more processor intensive then greymatter. so the upshot is, the poor little netwinder that runs ffej dot org is being beaten black and blue by MovableType. the second problem is the pop-up system itself.
when you click on the comments link, First your browsers gets teh request to open the pop up, Second it gets teh request to get the comments page, Third it gets and renders the page. some browsers handle popups faster tehn others. some pop-up code is better written as well. i'm not in love with pop-ups, but for people with out tabbed browsers, like us Mozilla and Opera users (on whom it's wasted, since we would just open in a new tab and refresh at will during the day), it makes for a similar user interface.
i'm playing around with ideas to make it more like our old system.
